Explain to me what is a 'Chav'

So im watching this documentry about english youth who have no sense of cultural identity. And they go on and on about how millions of kids 11-30 years old have adopted the culture of 'chavs'. Kind like a lifeless bum. The documentary went on in detail about the problem of these 'chavs'. Saying they run around and are known to slap people and rob them at random. And people, even the cops are afraid of these dudes.

They seem alot like our WWR's. ****a's, Wiggers, and Ricers but ill hold judgement. Cause the WWR's are the biggest ****in pussies of the crowd.

One series had the guy with the camera getting mugged by like 30 of them.


What the **** is a chav? And why o why are they seemingly above the law in the UK and is it a big of a problem as the documentary made it out to be?

Young British people with no deference to traditional authority who nevertheless try to "live large" in the same way that American blacks have been doing for a couple of decades. The differences aren't that great. The US has a problem with racism and Britain has a problem with social class.

There's a fair degree of irony in the fact that the tabloid papers that are promoting the hysteria about chavs are largely read by, and in accordance with the values of chavs.

yup, just as I thought, most 'anti-chav' social commentary comes from deep-rooted feelings of social superiority, and general ****er snobbery which is one can expect to be rampant in a country with such a rich class-division country such as great britain.

Actually it comes from something else.

For example, an incident not too long ago: A group of some 30 chavs were fighting on my front lawn, smashing windows, trying to kick down front doors etc. All after crashing a party at a neighbour's house (which just so happens to be rented bt the Grenadan High Commissioner to London).

If you met these people you would understand the dislike for them.

this hardly proves anything. Some of them are violent, sure, but this doesn't have to speak of all of them. Most remarks about them certainly aren't concern of them harming anyone but nothing more than mean-spirited, holier-than-thou, petty/wannabe-borgoise snobbery.
