Rep. Bernie Sanders, the next Senator from Vermont, introduced an Amendment to the Patriot Act amending section 215 to require a warrant for library and book store searches. The amendment died last year in the House 210-210 after last-minute pressure from DeLay et al. Now, it passed 238-187 with the support of 40 Republicans. IMO, it's almost certain to pass the Senate (which is generally less extremist than the House). The most onerous attacks on our civil liberties in the Patriot Act are still by no means defeated, but this here's the first Congressional victory against them. ![thumbs-up](https://apolyton.net/core/images/smilies/thumbs-up.gif)
