Well, not exactly, but compared to many other countries, I guess you could say Americans are relatively free...so maybe our leadership sucks, but it's not like its going to drastically change the price of a Big Mac and make Wal-Mart suddenly go out of business...Americans still get freedom to do whatever they want, and as long as Republicans and Democrats fight over control of the country and neither party gains much ground, I guess American life won't change very much...Although I would rather have the green party or the leftist Democrats get some more seats and gradually diminish the power of corporations and business in American politics...Oh I wish politics were about controlling society, not about ways to get your face on TV and make money at the same time and be able to kill people who aren't white Christians...

How sad American leadership has become...if only direct democracy on all issues came to effect, then I guess I couldn't blame politicians for all the stupid things America does...

Then, I guess I'd have to blame American teachers...

      Durban, patriot or traitor?

Neither. As Lefty so succinctly put it...

Bad tatics, bad taste, self defeating, bad senator, typical these days democrat.

Durbin, Dean, Conyers et al. sure aren't making it easy for the Dems to achieve any success in 2006...

If Bush's approval rating stays in the ****ter, it won't matter what wacky things some Dem national leaders say.

Security is the big issue these days and comments like those from Durbin sure as **** aren't going to make the Dems seem more credible on that issue to the average American.

Congressional elections are usually more local than national. A lot of Bush's low numbers come from domestic issues just as much as foriegn issues.

              Durbin's seat is pretty secure.

Congress's number's, and the president's numbers are, as Imran said, pathetically low. If republicans think a "story" (read manufactured canned 'outrage') like this helps them, then they are deeply deluded.

                    How contemptible.

What is sad is that Democrats, instead of exposing the right wing idiots who scream bloody outrage for the fools they are, they run away and act as if they have to play be the script created by these morons.

BUt again, after winnig by only 3% of the vote, Bush's second term has been quite a cluncker. His SS innitiative is in the sink-support for his pet war is at an all time low, and his numbers are at an all time low.

So of course, hacks like you need a "story". The only sad part is that democrats in washington decide to play along. That's why democrats are doing badly- they lets the right control the debate, instead of simply laughing in the face of the "outraged".

True, but how much do you want to bet it will come back up around mid-2006? The #2 Democrat in the Senate linking American troops with the Nazis and Khmer Rogue is any Republican strategist's wet dream...

If Congress's numbers remain where they are, Durbin could rape a nun and gut her on national TV and the republicans would still do badly.

Is that your only argument? That if Bush's and the Republicans numbers stay where they are (which they almost assuredly will not), then this won't matter? That's a pretty stupid and facile argument, even for you...

 Probably only in Durbin's home state. Remember Cynthia McKinney basically implied that Bush had something to do with 9/11 and in New Jersey, my family never even heard her name (they are registered Republicans). That would be far better propaganda feed if they wanted.

Don't you see why the Republicans are pushing for censure? They want to force the Dems to go on the record about this, so they can use it against them at a later date.

weren;t you one of the people who did not think Lott really said anything bad back when his statement thst cost him the Senate leadership came out? IIRC you were, so your ability to judge the political impact of statements seems rather, well, LOW.

From the very responses in this thread, the only people who will care about this, the only people who DO care about it are people like youself who vote republican anyways.

Your average voter in America is not so stupid and vapid and shallow to chose who will represent them in Congress based significantly on the statements of one senator from Illinois.

And if you think that is so, then you are trully clueless.
