Aruba and the Ugly Americans

Is it any wonder so many foreigners think Americans are self-centered hypocrites who employ double standards whenever it suits us? Aruba is a fairly peaceful place but now because an American girl was likely murdered there, we hear calls to boycott the island.

Wtf?

Do these people call for boycotts of America because of all the murders we have? Do they advise the rest of the world to boycott us based on the same "logic"?

The irony being displayed is truly stunning. A relatively peaceful place is being smeared by people living in a relatively violent place. You know, it appears Aruba's other policies are fueling the calls for boycott. Drinking age is 18, other drugs, at least some of the lighter ones like pot, are largely ignored, prostitution is tolerated even if it may be illegal, etc. Sounds almost libertarian to me...

Of course, it doesn't help that one of the suspects is the kid of an Aruban official and it appears favoritism may have played a part. But it ain't like politically connected people in this country are treated the same way Joe 6-pack is treated.

Oh well, the Jackson trial is over and our elite media need something else to harp about.

Shortly after her disappearence her parents went on TV complaining that the Aruba police weren't doing anything because her fgamily wasn't rich. That stirred alot of sympathy in the US. Now the American news seem to be unable to stop reporting on the case.

On the bright side little Jon Benet is now being allowed to rest in peace by The National Enquirer.

in any case the boycotts are called for because of the racial profiling and the arrest of 2 innocent black men. Not because of a dead white girl.
