Although coming from Mr neo-liberal, your arguments are kinda inconsistent.
I'm left of center thank you. I like some government involvement but believe in balanced budgets and market based solutions. That said social programs are badly needed and need to be funded as much as possible with in the confines of a balanced budget. I think education spending and universal health care are more important then military spending plus I believe it is insane for us to spend more money on our military then the rest of the world combined. It's just a giant welfare program politicians give corporations to solicite brides... er, "campaign contributions".

Same with farm subsidies, star wars, numerous wasteful defense contracts (three air superiority fighters when one will do? New class of carriers when the current ones are still upgradable? An airliftable armored personnel carrier that isn't airliftable? A new rifle that costs 3 times more then the old but doesn't perform any better?), and most of the corporate welfare that passes for "investments" in Washington. I'd also like to see consumer related reforms like restoring consumer protections like bankruptcy rights, giving citizens the right to control their private information which corporations try to buy and sell, truth in labeling laws which let consumers know exactly what they're buying, reforms of drug laws which will allow greater competition for medical drugs and the end of the protectionism which has made medical drugs in America the most expensive on Earth.

PBS has the best line up of educational kid's shows you can find any where in the country. Much better then that brain rotting comercialist **** but conservatives hate it because it doesn't teach people to hate gays.

PBS has a lot of local news plus it has the best national news of any US network. Little spin, heavy on facts, light on opinion. I'll talk to any day.

Just because you do not care for PBS, does not mean that this is not important for other people.

I dunno. I saw a lot of Thomas Freidman and other pro-war pundits during the build up to Iraq onThe News Hour. Lotta spin then.

But yes, certainly McLaughlin. Hell, the group has Pat Buchanan.

So? You realize that there are more people on the show than Buchanan? Furthermore, Buchanan is a very articulate speaker and an intelligent guy. The best pundit show ever was the old Crossfire with Buchanan and Press.

Of course the workload consists of watching one 1 hour show per night and typing a one paragraph memo on it. It's easy money from people who begrudge paying $5 per day so poor chidlren can eat a decent meal at school. That just says it all.

Regardless of Buchanan's supposed bona fides, he's not the right wing equivalent of, say, Eleanor Clift. If you want to balance Buchanan you put a left-wing partisan ideologue (i.e. Carville), not a trained reporter.

As for the value of these pundit debate shows, I'll go with teh Jon Stewart on the matter.

Jon Stewart sucks... speaking of partisan .

And Buchanan is from a reporting background and was a speechwriter and columnist (which are his claims to fame). Calling him a 'partisan ideologue' sells Buchanan short. The man is a very good debater and offers an different perspective on things. He's conservative, yes, but not a Bush/Congressional Republican conservative. Not by a long shot.
