Erm, that's not at all what he was saying. Reread.

    But it's irrelevant anyway!

I can agree with that, though it is sometimes hard to tell one way or another.

        It's not just small cults...

        Southern Baptists
        The Taliban

China has probably the lowest rates of religious violence of any developing nation - let's keep it that way.

"The Constitutional "right to privacy" involves the legality of evidence collected by intrusive means: hearsay, electronic eavesdropping, certain forms of interrogation, etc."

I read this as activities that go with intelligence gathering. But if I'm mistaken or not, as you say, it's irrelevant.

Yeah, when cult members pratice pedophilia or consume hallugenic drugs it's hard to tell if these acts are illegal.

So two police officers can break into your house while you're going at it with someone else without it being a violation of your right to privacy because it doesn't apply to sex?

Like I said, you don't really believe in freedom of any sort really given your response and would quite likely find yourself better suited to the confines of the PRC rather than Berkeley.

Police can't break into your house without a warrant for any reason (unless they have good cause to suspect someone is in immediate harm).

No, the point is that he thinks anti-sodomy laws are constitutional because he doesn't see there being a right to privacy for sex acts inferred by the constitution.

And yes, it's still totally irrelevant to this thread.

I'm well aware of the whole warrant idea -- I should have included that in my post.

Sure there are other factors such as vast right wing conspiracies and oil companies, but when you get to the core of it, its because not everyone benefits from the transition from traditional heirarchical society to a more egalitarian modern society.

Keepign tabs on religion and politics is an effective way of navigating that early stage of development. The Communist Party is not an aristocracy that one needs to be born into; with the exception of North Korea there is no dynastic succession.

Not yet. It's easy for it to become that way, since the current leader chooses the next.
