Okaaay... I seem to have unleashed some pretty intense emotions from some people with my seemingly innocuous question.

The consensus seems to be either the iPod mini or Zen Micro. So, unless anyone else has any suggestions I'll trundle down to the store tomorrow, procrastinate between the two for a while before making my choice.

      Thanks again!

Play with both of them. Put them in your hand, see which one fits better. Play with the interface, see if you can listen to them, etc.

Crappy interface? I never had the problems you have. Never.

Don't worry, Asher and Agathon are like an old couple, they love to argue. I'm sure that if either one of them would die, the other one would soon follow. Glonkie and Aggie forever

Don't forget to compare battery life. Zen has a longer battery life.

Wrong. Like I pointed out in my previous post, the iPod's Mini battery life is 18 hours, whereas the Zen micro's is 12 hours.

Zen Micro is 12 hours, Zen Touch is 24 hours.

The catch is the Zen Micro's battery is removable, meaning you can have 2 batteries if you wanted to. Or when the battery's life starts to wane (as Li-Ion batteries do), you can easily swap it out without buying a new player.

Extra Micro batteries are $39.99: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...&product=11215

Here's what I wrote in my previous post:

Battery life: iPod Mini is 18 hours right now. According to Tom's Hardware review, the battery life of the Zen Micro is 10 hours (12 according to the Creative website). The iPod wins. (Otoh, you can easily change the battery on the Zen. But of course you'll have to buy that extra battery. On the iPod, you can't change the battery yourself)
You can't say I wasn't fair. The Zen touch isn't a contender here, since he wants a really small player. That's why I suggested either a Flash player or a microdrive player.

Well, that's good to know. I just thought I'd let the original poster know the problems I've had with the iPod.

You might want to check out iAudio. Better quality IMO than Creative, Apple, etc. I've recently gotten one their 1 GB flash players, the U2. And I'm very satisfied.

Let me rephrase that: I never heard of these problems occuring, so the problem is probably the user, not the player

Then it's not very user-friendly is it. Perhaps it's the crappy interface earier mentioned.

Its user-friendly all right, but it ain't foolproof
