I don't think we've seen the impact of the drop in the Dollar over the last year. It seems likely that the trade deficit will start dropping soon.

Edit: I didn't mean to rubbish your "eventually", only to highlight it. It's a long term problem, but the trade deficit/current account deficit goes up and it goes down often and the fluctuations are based upon items with a much shorter time horizon.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The only debt I have is a few thousand on a car. Otherwise I have a morgage that pays me. Worst case I get the house back. No, worst case inflation outruns my 6% interest. Hell, I don't know the worst case and I hope I don't find out.

che, I don't want to invest in a region, like europe, that I see as prone to political instability.

Suit yourself, Lancer. Have fun working in your old age.

It's had plenty of time to impact, Dan. The rise started 3.5 years ago

Yes it has, but trade always takes a lot of time to adjust. It's just taking longer this time. As you can see, I expected Canada/US trade to adjust about 1.5 to 2 years ago.

I wouldn't have much fun with that, but if I have to handle it I will. We all make our best guesses and we can't all be right. I hope things work out for you che.

Maybe you'll end up a political officer or something.

A guy representing a bank in the Phils offered me 20% on $5000 or more. I said thanks but no thanks...

alas no-that's my current career goal, AUSA. Currently I'm employed by the city of Indianapolis, as a public defense attorney. Lucky for me when the economy goes poorly, crime goes up and my job is necessary.

crap pay, but security and decent benefits

Public defense attorney, now THAT's a tough job I would imagine.

Good on you for doing your civic duty.
