"The Left Hand of Darkness" about a species which spends one month as male, one month in transition, one month as female, and back. "The Dispossessed" about an Einstein-like mathematician raised by a communist society on his planet's moon. "The Word for World is Forest" about loggers on a forest planet who tick off the locales, who are kind of a combination of monkey, leprechan and Amerindian.
She "invented" an interstellar instant-communication device that a lot of other science fiction writers picked up on and started putting in their stories. Can't remember its name. Starts with an "A." Orson Scott Card uses it. Dang.
Hmm... Le Guin's communication apparatus- did the Author of Enders Game utilize the same sort of thing for his series, I think I know what you're talking about.
As for comments on LeGuin- don't read her longer pieces- "The Tombs of Atuan" was terrible. Amazingly boring. AT times it read like Lovecraft or Lin Carter, but other than that it was merely bad. I wouldn't want to inflict that piece of trash on anyone.
Her shorter works, though, are a tossup- you might find something you enjoy there.
Krill- hmm.. so far John Brunner's the only one I haven't heard of either. I guess you're just an obscure person then
