That is true, but my uninsured motorist coverage is only ~150$ over 6 months. The bulk of my cost is in bodily and property liability (~550$ and 350$ respectively)

I really do think that this zip code is full of piss-poor drivers though. I've been scraped while my car was parked by somebody who didn't leave a note (didn't make a claim, since I figured the likely additional cost in premiums would outweigh the benefit of getting a scratch repaired). I've also seen the idiots who live around me be unable to park their cars in spots which were twice as long as their vehicles (watched somebody try for 10 minutes and be unable to do it; I wanted to go outside and offer to park her car for her).

Secondly, why does a difference of 1 mile in where I park my ****ing car drop my rate by 50%?

Thirdly, why does one insurance company cost so much less than another for the exact same circumstances (not to mention the fact that I've now been with Geico for a year without making a claim).
1 year isn't much. i've been with Geico for 10 years without making a claim.

I have had the same vehicle for 10 years now. But I live in a city with very high auto theft rates. And I drive a 4 X 4 (4x4's have higher rates, because they assume I'm some stupid redneck driver). I think I'm paying about $500 dollars for 6 months. $1000 a year. This is for a 10 year old vehicle (pickup). I'm not sure how much it's worth anymore.

And this is with a military discount. I keep meaning to take that off, but I keep forgetting. . As I'm not in the military anymore. But I also keep forgetting to tell them I installed a car alarm (though it isn't the expensive type that disables the ignition) and I use the club. I also only drive about 7600 miles a year instead of 10,000 like I orginally estimated.

I put my alarm and started using the club when my truck was broken into 5 years ago and some kids tried to steal it. My dog warned me, and I scared them off before they did any damage to my ignition.

Once upon a time, I was getting killed by commuter time, so I moved 80% closer to school, to a place I drove by everyday. When I did this, my insurance rates quintupled even though I was driving 80% less. Moral of the story: Don't ever live in the same zip code as Koreatown.

A couple of years later, I was thinking about buying a convertable, so I called by agent to see what that would do to my insurance. He took one look and screamed, "@#^&!@!, where do you live?!"
              "Near Koreatown."
"Oh, well you can't afford insurace for a rag top."
"Whatta you mean, I can't afford it?? You don't even know how much I make."
"I don't care how much you make. You can't afford it."

The rates on 2 doors are also more than if you had four.
Want lower rates, get a sedan, not a sports car. Air-bags, anti-lock brakes also lower your rate. Do you have State Farm in Canada. They have the cheapest rates, but will drop you like a hot potato is you file too many claims. About 5 years ago, I had a Chevy Cavalier, four door, ABS, driver side air-bag. I had 50K/100k/50k, collision & comprehensive, rental, death, dismemberment, hospital, loss of work/wages, you name it. Paid $600 for the year. At the time I had a job about 50 miles from home. Had three accidents in three weeks. Hit a deer, and 2 snow related. No other drivers involved. They dropped me and I had get coverage from the assigned risk pool.

I think I know the reason for this. Koreans, at least the ones in Berkeley, are real ******* when they deal with other drivers after an accident, and even more so when they deal with the insurance company. (and they have a higher tendency to take small incidents to the insurance company)

I'm not in Canada. I live in Baltimore.

                      Otherwise I wouldn't have a 5 digit zip code.

I'll make a point of calling State Farm too.

This is why I take the bus.

I don't understand how you people afford these ridiculous costs.

                          Bus. In Baltimore.

I walk to school, but getting to the grocery store or to my friends' houses is just plain stupid without a car.

I use State Farm for house insurance.

Completely different thing, I know, but I quite liked dealing with them. Affordable too.

                              Yeah, I figured as much.

From what I gather Balbi is a dump save for the waterfront area.
