I was thinking more about a friend or acquaintance.

The friend could be less than truthful as well, depending. Depends how much you trust them on things like that.

Imran, why would someone lie about a basic fact that could be easily checked?

If only someone would ask President Bush that on live television...

Even if they release the pics, I can allways choose not to see them, as I intend to do.

I want to see the photos. Actually I just want to see the photos of the guards having sex with each other. Yeah I know Lynddie is pretty ugly, but I'm a pervert, I still want to see them.

Why not? Putting your own spin on something is quite common for people when looking at 'facts'.

Presumably Dan would agree if Germany asked the world to stop publishing photos of nazi atrocities?

There's any amount of sick porn with ugly people in it out there. Why do you specifically want to see Lynndie Englande (or however she misspells her name)?

As for the question, certainly, the public doesn't need to see the pictures. The question should be, is there any reason those of the public that may want to see them should not be allowed to do so?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

I'm all for full exposure to as many people as possible to to any form of human rights abuse by any country -- whether it be the study of a past human rights abuse or concern of a contemporary case of human rights abuse.

Maybe DanS lost some "photos" of his own, and this is his pre-emptive strike against their publication.

I've seen so many Americans downplaying the abuse at Abu Ghraib, that I firmly believe that it is 100% in the public interest that ANY such pictures are shown.

Yeah, but I can't see how it's in the public interest to see Lynndie England's arse in the air.
