I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I never changed my forum name in this forum. I just stopped posting and forgot about this forum many years ago after I lost interest in CivII.
Click here and here to find out how close the George Washington Bridge came to being blown up on 9/11 and why all evidence against those terrorists was classified. So why did you return? Not that I'm complaining, but were you gone for 6 years?

I wanted to send an email to Lancer to tell him that I was going to the Philippines, but his email address that I had was no longer valid. (I had already met him in Bohol on a previous trip). So I did a google search and found that he still posted here.

I got the Slaughtermeyer nick from the Monty Python sketch about the joke that won WW2.

Oh yeah? I visited him last year in Bohol. Very nice.

He'll be back online soon I'm sure. He & Dolores are back in Oregon.

I don't want to see these photos and feel like they're being forced on me by a pressure group seeking to discredit the military (the ACLU). Rumsfeld's account of them are detailed enough for my account and in any event the text references are sufficient to know what happened. It's going to be weeks of this crap -- every time I turn on the TV or walk down the street and see it on the front pages of the newspapers.

The same reason that photos of lynched blacks are published by historians today and that photos of Nazi concentration camp mass graves are published -- so people can be shocked into realizing the horror of inhumane acts.

What you do NOT know can hurt you.

Btw, may I add... I applaud this judge and the ACLU for this. To pretend that it was just a few pranks and quickly forgotten would be a horrible thing. We must realize how horrible this actually was. When you have people saying fraternity hazing is worse (as happened on this forum) and saying it ain't that bad, we need to do whatever we can to have them fully grasp the crap we committed.

Furthermore, why doesn't the ACLU have the right to this? The Freedom of Information Act allows release of information such as this. There is no national security reason to keep it underwraps or anything.

What if you aren't sure if the person who has seen the photos (ie, the government) is truthful?
