    • I'm just exploring your perceptions of what's going on. I wasn't expecting a long annotated list, because I'm skeptical that you could come up with one anyway. Even the pro-war outlets such as the Washington Post have been remarkably spin-free.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

        • Well, today's fare includes...

          (1) Insurgents hitting back after the Iraqi government security cordon was thrown up around Baghdad.

          (2) A soldier who started having hallucinations about dead people in Iraq and committed suicide at Walter Reed.

Yeh, my spin radar must be broken, because this is pretty much what I hear about on a daily basis.

          • you see/ elements of the international media are speculating that maybe a corner has been turned and the tactics of the insurgents in attacking civilians may be turning the population against them

There is also the zaqawi may be dead story and speculation of a possible power struggle because of failed tactics. You guys get morbid and the world gets optimistic

            • Speculation on this is warranted. There was an excellent article yesterday in the WaPo about the residents of an Iraqi town on the Syrian border in a huge firefight with al Qaeda. The marines just watched on. But nobody mainstream has come to a conclusion about things, as far as I know.

                    • Haven't we established yet that it's not that we need to see them, but that it would be dire to not allow them to be seen?

Bingo. And that's the point which CANNOT be deflected, IMO. I've seen many just blow it off, when faced with pictures you can't do that.

You may not realize it, but it actually has been scientifically shown that those who support Bush's war are more likely to be dumb, or at least not as well educated as those who oppose the war:

                              • Speaking of media mouthpieces, here is one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen. "Cheney offended." Who gives a **** if Cheney is offended?!

This has been the lead story ALL DAY on CNN.com. Really, is that the most important story that we need to know?

I'm offended he lied to everybody to go invade Iraq.

                                **** Cheney. What a moron.
