    • Pity
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

      • Funny, shouting was one of the major marks of certain nationalistic regimes in the first part of the previous century, and tact - well, I suspect that they didn't even knew the word, and of course the meaning of it was way above their heads.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

        • Hmmm...

          Germany, 1933-1945--National Socialism--Nazi--Racist and Socialistic.

          Italy, 1922-1943--Fascist--see above

China, 1920-Present--Nationalist China (Chang Ki-sheik) defeated Warlords to unite country from foreigners influence. Civil War with Communists until Japan invaded. Both sides agreed to a cease-fire. Japan defeated, Nationals defeated by Communists after war, flee to Formosa (Taiwan). Communists in power ever since.

Southeast Asia--Nationalist movement seeks independence from France after WWI at Versailles Peace Conference. Falls on deaf ears. Vietminh wage guerilla war against France after WW2. French Indochina carved up after French lose at Dienbienphu. Cambodia, Laos, N & S Vietnam all created. Communist movements takes over all in 1975.

Cuba, circa 1800's--Nationalist movement against Spain. win indepence after Spanish-American War in 1898.
Cuba, 1950's--overthrow Batista regime. Castro declares himself a Socialist in New York when he comes to the U.S., Cuba a socialist dictatorship 'til today.

North America, 1775-1783--American colonies rebel against English rule.

Do you want me to continue on Nationalistic movements. Because Blackcat you still don't know what a Nationalist is. There are goods ones and there are bad ones. You fail to see the differences.

You don't have, We have had them here a couple of times, 1848-1864 was the worst - they cost approx a third of the country and we only got say half back in 1920.

What I was opposing was the shouting and lack of tact wich I have a tendency to connect with people/politics that are not able to build up their cases on facts.

Admittedly, Apolyton/OT can sometimes give you an urge to use very big letters although I don't think the targets will ever get the message

              1848-1864

The duchies of Schleswig & Holstein, German, revolted against Danish control in 1848 and were occupied by Prussian troops commissioned by the German Confederation, which had claims to the duchies. With Swedish, British and Russian help, the Danes held their rights to Schleswig-Holstein, until Bismarck came along in 1864 and went through you guys like s**t through a goose (Danish-Prussian War). Bismark didn't like the Austrians, and dealt with them next in 1866 (Seven Weeks' War).

If you are still suffering from that, you have Danish Nationalism in you, and you didn't even know it.

You don't get it. There was a great rise in nationalism in that period wich caused the wars. It has no impact now, that is not in the nationalistic way - in other ways it had some impact.

Can't blame Bismarck didn't like the Austrians - their fleet was a disaster.

Oh really, then why is there opposition to the EU; the latest being France--the so called champions of Multinationalism. Take out Multi and you have your answer. The Balkans during the '90's. Your still unsure, otherwise you wouldn't have added this tag to your statement.

72% of the French want the European construction to continue. 39% of the Non voters did so because they hoped that a better European constitution would be written. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Non victory was definitely not a nationalist one.
