Just got to the house. Thanks for the well wishes, everyone.

Our ma's handling it pretty well. It hasn't really hit me yet. I suppose it won't until I see her in the casket.

I had a bad feeling this would happen for awhile. This weekend is our busiest wkend at the store, and it's right before we close. I *had* to be there. I didn't want to have to choose between helping my dad & my mom.

Fortunately we have an ornery old cuss of a store manager ourselves. She relieved me today @ work, which is where I was when I got the news. When I told her I'd be back by Sat, she put her hands on her hips and said, "You don't have to be back here until Tuesday, so I don't expect to see you until then. In fact, I won't allow you back in your store!"

"Excuse me!? I have to be here!"

"If you come back on Saturday, I'll drop my keys and take the rest of the weekend off. In fact, I'm calling your father to tell him that now!"

And she did. So here I am, until Tuesday.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

My plane was delayed by thunderstorms here in Ft.L. I would very likely have missed my connecting flight, and ended up spending the night on a chair in the Charlotte, NC airport, so I elected to stay home and fly this morning. I leave in a few hours.

It was always funny to see Aunt Jeanne and Grammy get together. They may have been over 90, but put them together, and they were like two teenagers, giggling like school girls and talking about old boyfriends.

                          Our condolences, Che Theben.

One last Jitterbug for your grandmother:

He was a famous trumpet man from old Chicago way
He had a boogie style that no one else could play
He was the top man at his craft
But then his number came up and he was gone with the draft
He's in the army now, a-blowin' reveille
He's the boogie-woogie bugle boy of Company B

I'm sorry to hear this, chegitz guevara and Theben, you and your family have my condolences.

I lost both my father at 70 years old, and his father at 95 years old, in 2002, so I know all too well how hard it is to be without the ones you love, the people who always guided you and wanted all the best for you. I was very close to my grandfather in his last years, as we lived closeby and I visited him at least once a week.

But the departure of loved ones and saying farewell, paying your respects in just the way that feels right, can in itself be a source of strength. And if you always try to focus on the bright memories that you had in common, it will be a help also.
