I buy from about a dozen stores, whichever has something I like.

Creative's players are a joke. The guy on the bus next to me had one. What an ugly lump.

Funny thing is he had white Apple earbuds with it.

I was issued an Ipod in Iraq to use with my Psyop team and I didn't like how Apple tried to tell me what I could and could not do with my own music. That's the main reason I won't buy an Ipod. The fact that it costs more, has a shorter battery life, and that the sound quality are inferior are just icing.

I'm not Asher , but I'll answer anyway . Instead of using soundcard based capture software ( as Asher did ) , I prefer to use mplayer to dump the raw stream to disk ( using -dumpstream ) , and then encode it to whatever I want using mencoder . This way I can download the music to disk while still listening to something else .

I dislike both the iPod on technical grounds and the Creative on aesthetic grounds. Recommend me a player!
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

Buy a creative player and hide it in an iPod sock.

I have a MuVo and I like it. Does the job well enough.

                  Get a MiniDisc player instead.

Buy one of the iRiver HD players. They're better than the Zens (and they'll work with anything).
