  • what the heck is wrong with Boston?

So my dad and I went out to Boston yesterday to check out MIT (we just got back a little bit ago). That afternoon we take the subway (which isn't all that good compared to DC's) and go downtown to see Star Wars. We get back at about 9:15 and nothing is open. Nothing at all, except the restaraunt in the hotel. I'm like "wtf? this is a college - what the hell do the people do at night?" I'd heard about Boston, but this is absurd

    Where was your hotel?

And we go to bars (underagers have fakes)

But yes, Boston does close early - but not until 2. Blame it on lingering puritanical effects.

It was the Cambridge something-or-other right next to MIT.

I lied, Legal Seafood was open. But that was it.

Cambridge is a different city than Boston. Had you gone to Boston, you would've found plenty to do.

Also, there isn't anything around MIT. You have to go to Harvard Square (guess which college is nearby), which is where all the bars, restaurants, stores, and theatres are.

OK if that was representative of the city, there's no way I'd ever go to MIT.

Boston has the oldest subway system in the United States, built in 1897. DC's Metrorail was built in 1976... I'd say considering that Boston's "T" system is pretty excellent.

Like Emp said, Cambridge is a seperate city entirely. But Boston does close a bit early... though there are plenty of things open 24 hours, you just can't restrict yourself to the financial district which is where you probably were.

Besides, Kuci... lets be honest. What will you be doing past 9pm besides building robots and masturbating anyways?

I know. I don't particularly care. It still wasn't great.

The whole north east is like that, very ****ing annoying. That's one of the reasons I like Seoul, its the most 24-hour city I've ever seen.

I thought Boston sucked when I was there. What an embarrassing subway system.

Boston's T system does have some serious defects, notably the "Silver Line" aka "Silver Lie", a fancy bus that the transit people try to pass off as being just as good as a train. It comes complete with underground stations!

Looks like a nice subway station...

They don't even have machines from which you can buy subway tickets (actually, they use TOKENS ) - you have to stand in a line to buy tickets from a person behind a counter

That's clean and looks like it smells a lot less of piss than the stations I went to. I was downtown staying at the Y, which is next to Northeastern University.
