Hell, you'd think slavery would have destroyed the black American family but it took liberalism to do that.

Get a clue! Slave families were routinely broken up when either one of the parents or their offspring were sold. This was common practice. Also as Gepap already pointed out the high incarceration rate experienced by black men is the leading cause for black families becoming single parent homes.

People have spent two pages explaining why your OP just doesn't stact up to facts or to reality but you keep repeating the same baseless accusations. You've been listening to Rush to much and your brain is rotting away. Snap out of it before you get sucked into the Nediverse.

The positive thing about this thread is that there is a consensus, it appears, that families are a good thing and should be promoted as a norm for raising children. As Dr. Strangelove said, welfare has opened the door for the poor woman to leave an abusive relationship. But it also has opened the door to welfare as a way of life for far too many.

What we need to do is to see if there are any fixes that would permit the one but discourage the other.

From my understanding, there are now time limits for welfare. This would seem to permit its use for a transition, but not for a way of life. Am I wrong in this?

Generous welfare payments were around for all of about 15 years. BY the time Reagan came into power most generous anti-poverty programs were gutted. If 15 years of generous welfare was somehow so terrible as to crush the family, one would think 25 years after of "welfare reform" could have done something.

The massive encarceration of African American males doesn't really jibe well with the disintegration of the Black family on the timeline. It may not have been welfare that did the deed, but it's a better case than incarceration for most of the period of the decline.

When did families "collapse"? ie. what do you claim the timeline is?
