  • Actually, I think Ewan McGregor did a fine job, given the limitations he was handed. I can see him becoming the Alec Guinness Obi Wan in 20-odd years time - he just nailed some of Alec's gestures and voice patterns.

Hayden, however. There was a person who was totally out of his element.

I probably exaggerated a bit... but only a bit.

      2000 - $400,000,000
      2001 - $250,000,000
      2002 - $200,000,000
      2003 - $185,000,000
2004 - ?? (Forbes doesn't have him listed, though I have a hard time thinking that he made less than Lindsay Lohan's (the lowest ranking celebrity) $2 million. It probably has to do with verification.)
2005 - I'm sure with the new movie it'll compare to the previous 6 years.

I can't find figures for prior years.

Er... didn't Leia mention remembering her mother in ROTJ?
The woman who she though was her birth mother. Leia did not know that Darth was her father until the end.

        • Actually, that doesn't wash, given the lines in ROTJ:

          LUKE

Leia... do you remember your mother? Your

          real mother?

          LEIA

Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.

          LUKE

          What do you remember?

          LEIA

          Just...images, really. Feelings.

          LUKE

          Tell me.

          LEIA

(a little surprised at his insistence)

She was very beautiful. Kind, but...sad.

(looks up) Why are you asking me all this?

          LUKE

I have no memory of my mother. I never knew

          her.

          • To go with what you're saying, there would have to have been three women who claimed to be Leia's mother at some time in her life: Padme, "the woman Leia thought was her birth mother", and the Senators wife. Since Leia was adopted immediately after Padme's death, where did the mystery third mom fit in all this?

            • Haven't seen the movie, but would Leia's being force-sensitive have enabled her to "sense" what her mother was like even though she never really knew her? Of course, that would mean Luke should be able to, too...

I noticed that too. Add that to the list of Lucas' bad writing...

Would it be too much trouble to rechristen this thread : "Star Wars vs. A New Hope" ?
It would be exactly as much trouble as you posting your review in this thread, instead of whining about it and making a copycat thread because you didn't care for the subject matter of 75-odd posts in this one.

                              Er, that should be "was."

Let's put it this way... Sophie came home tonight after spending time with her grandparents. They bought her a set of Star Wars cards because she begged for them (it's not as if she's unaware of the new movie). When she came home, she spent two hours begging us "I wanna see Star Wars! I wanna see the Wookie movie!"

So I went to Target and bought it for her - a collection of the first three movies.

It was the first time I ever owned a SW film on VHS or DVD in my life.

                              Was.

                              • I thought the movie's main thrust was a terribly sad one.

I think that Anakin's turn to Vader was incredibly heart wrenching.

He only did it because he thought it would save his wife..he otherwise showed all the intentions of a good jedi: Drawing his saber upon discovering that Palpatine was a sith and not wanting to kill Dooku.

I got a very sad feeling when I saw the mask being lowered onto his burnt face...he had a look of disgust and surprise...and reluctance.

And after he was in the suit, when he found out that his wife was dead (after the emperor falsely promised him that he would save her), he looked as if he hated his decision...but it was too late to do anything about it.

When they showed Vader on the bridge with the emperor at the end, I couldn't help but feel that Anakin's decision was one that he himself seemed to regret when he realized that it was all a lie...

He never wanted to be a dark lord, he only did it to save his wife.

And when that was revealed as a lie, he looked beaten and more lost than ever.

If anything, this movie made Darth Vader seem less evil than ever.

                                my thoughts.
