I think having a USS Devastator off of your shores isn't a very good PR move dude....but it would sound pretty cool. USS Tyrant

I don't think that LCS will be used for Mine warfare ops. The ships would need to be made of wood.
Mine warfare ships are named after birds(MHC) and different types of fightng men(Warrior, Gladiator).
The idea for littoral combat ships has been around for longer than the Bush/Rumsfeld administration and 9/11. The navy concept of "forward from the sea" calls for efficiency of power. When it was attacked, A DDG like the COLE could deliver Tomahawks at classified ranges and defend itself against jets and missiles. Who would have thought that it was more vulnerable to a small boat than anything else. Today, we use these same powerful ships for boarding ops and etc. This is sort of a waste. The LCS ships ultimately will allow the U.S. Navy to work more efficiently.
That being said, I hate the name Freedom.
You just hate America's freedoms you commie bastard
Perhaps we should honor its illustrious creator first?

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier
What on earth is it with Americans and the word 'freedom'? - The most common use of the word 'freedom' in Australia is in ads for tampons.
Incidently, given that Britain's two new carriers are to be named HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Queen Elizabeth, Brits don't have any grounds on which they can mock the USN

Hm, I reckon "Freedom destroyed" would come across really, really, bad.

When the USS Freedom's captain gets drunk and stears the ship into a rock it's going to look very, very bad
Incidently, one of the few correct decisions Hitler made was renaming the cruiser Deutschland to the Lützow in 1940.

Knew I was going to catch it on that one. Had a bad feeling that I knew of earlier USS Intrepids. That's what comes of not checking up on google...
You get a pass since you're a Canuck, but Decatur's little stunt put the Intrepid just a little below the Constitution and Bon Homme Richard in early American naval history.
