I don't have a problem with gerrymandering to get like groups together in one district, but gerrymandering to delberately disenfranchise voters is a bad thing. For example So you had five districts, with a split 60/40 of voters. You could gerrymander it so that the districts are split 3/2. That's fair representation. You could also arrange is so that it's 4/1 or 5 /0 or even 2/3 or 1/4 the other way, so that the minority controls most of the dsitricts.
I'd rather abolish districts altogether, though, and simply have at large elected proportionally.
