I know that philosophy is separate from theology. But that doesn't mean I have to depreciate the insight found in different religious discourses.

Not necessarily. Most philosophy has been religious in nature. Consider Descartes, Kant, Hume, Aristotle, Hegal, etc. The Sermon on the Mount isn't philosophy.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I was actually saying that in response to Shi's trolling. I couldn't come up with anything better (it was late).

AFAIK most of the local high schools have it as an elective.

            yes, exactly

But that doesn't depreciate the wisdom found in the Sermon on the Mount.

Cool. Not in my day, though. I had to wait for college.

It does as far as teaching it in a philosphy course.

I'm not so sure that you can be so sure about that, though.

I think some of you might have missed the [/sarcasm] tag in Shi's post. As a resident of Montgomery County I can tell you that that the school board chose the language over the objections of religious groups, and religious groups successfully sued to have it removed.

I sure can. Hey don't get me wrong. I like Christ's commie Sermon on the Mount. I just don't think it's philosophy.

Some day we commies will lead the meek to inherit the Earth.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I read in my US government textbook that schools in the Bible Belt openly violate the ban on school prayer. Really, those rednecks make me sick.
