  • How many security council resolutions would they have had by now if...

    ...there had been no Iraq war?

    I'm thinking we would have been up to several hundred thousand by now, those UN people being so resolute and all.

    You?

        I don't think we should have had any UN resolutions at all. Inviting the U.N. to comment on our actions, and giving nations a forum to veto our actions was a mistake. In fact I would say it was one of the worst diplomatic mistakes we made (the other being that once the U.S. decided to consult the U.N. we didn't do everything in our power, including wait, till the U.N. passed a resolution that said, Ok kick the crap out of Saddam now), and it's one of the reasons why the US lost influence in recent years.

        edit:

        I know, I know don't feed the trolls, but hey what the hell.

          Cool avatar korn. One of my favorite flicks...

          Anyway there were loads of resolutions before the Iraq war where the UN was ordering Saddam to do this or that. He ignored them all. The result? More resolutions of course.

                No, but then the UN doesn't matter. They should just shove it off into the Hudson.

                Pssst, people: this thread is about the UN and its irrevelence.

                UN;
                see 'League of Nations'.

                  That would be rather impractical, as they would first need to transport it to the other side of Manhattan to do so.

                      And is "irrevelence" a state of being irreverent? I like a bit of irreverent wit now and then...

                          Lancer, I agree. Gore would either have gotten a few more with dire consequences language, or would have just dropped the whole thing.

                          In the meantime, Saddam would have gotten his WMDs, nukes and whatever, and would have made embarked on another war, this time nuking several cities in the process, like Riyad, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, and Teheran, depending on his direction of conquest.

                              Oh, of course, reality.

                              Saddam was a rational and peaceful man who would never think of attacking a neighbor, or using WMD. Never.
