Perhaps playing to your steriotype is not the right thing to do?

He doesn't just have to reenvigorate the base, he has to downright convince people to switch sides. What he has succeeded in doing is having his base sigh as the realize they have already lost, and had the otherside harden their hearts and say "**** you then."

No doubt. But the Republicans got into power by coming up with new programs and ideas. At the time, it was called, "Contract with America."

Many believe the braindead party is the Democrat Party, as it has no ideas or programs. It substitutes hatred for policy. Can they win the hearts and minds of the moderate voter by behaving like drunken lunatics?

Elections in this country are becoming more and more a joke any way. Republicans have jerry-mandered every district they can in order to prevent fair elections while congressmen from both parties attempt to move district lines in order to make "safe districts". Our democracy is very sick.

True dat, Oerdin. It's not the GOP victories that bother me so much as the way they play the game. It seems like democracy is something to be overcome, not respected.

Though my memory may be failing me, I seem to remember the Dems doing the same thing Oerdin describes to the districts in the '70s. Anyone else recall this?

I suppose you take issue with the Dems making ridiculous districts to unite far flung black communities to assue black representatives?

Maybe this is what I remember, though if it is I wouldn't have been against it.

It's one thing to try and get like groups together. It's another thing to try and engineer permanent minorities.

Say you had a community with four districts and it was plit 50/50. You could gerrymander the districts to have three districts with solid majorites for one party, and the other district 90% for the other party. This is what the GOP has been doing.

Personally, I'm against districts altogether. I think all representitves should be elected proportionally at large.
