      The party of Ashcroft and Rumsfeld hasn't won my heart over with their amazing consistency and devotion to doing what is right by the people, Ned.

      They're close to evil.

        Ah, Ashcroft...wasn't he the frontman in 'The Verve'?

              Q, yeah, people who are embarrased by a nude statue are "evil." Your definitions are clear.

                  DeLay is the current House Majority leader.

                  Besides, I've got memories of Iran-Contra and Teapot Dome.

                  Embarassed by them is one thing. Not something to be proud about, but sure, whatever. Spending upwards of $5k to cover them when you could probably have gotten cheaper drapes at Targét?

                  Oh, and there's that whole Patriot Act thing, and the Gitmo thing, and the Abu Ghraib thing, and the whole NK thing...

                  ===

                  Fine, let's rephrase that last thing, because some of us think that the Patriot Act and the DMCA are good things(TM).

                  The party of Coulter and Hannity hasn't exactly won my heart over with their nasty and downright slanderous attacks on anybody who doesn't believe in the same things they do.

                    DeLay controls Congress with an iron fist. This isn't just another Majority Leader, but the main architect of the Republican Party. For all intents and purposes, DeLay is Congress.

                    Byrd, even assuming that he's still a racist, has no Congressional leadership role. And he didn't control the Senate like DeLay controls the House. Senate Leaders (with the exception of LBJ) have generally been rather ineffective.

                      Regardless, I take it then that Dems approve of the use of outrageous language by their party leader? Clearly this motivates their base, but we shall see whether people will vote for party lead by a drunk who obviously views the Republican Party as the ultimate evil.

                      Back to corruption, it seems the Dems have absolutely no problem with corruption by their leaders. Think Hillary, Gore and Bill.

                        No one questioned whether Storm Thurmond was "still" a racist. When Republicans praised him, they were labelled racists immediately. Do we detect a double standard here when Dems can praise Byrd without being labelled racists themselves?

                          Also, even if Delay controlls the House, his corruption is personal. The Dems object to Delay because he in fact controls the House in a very effective way.

                            I don't know if Strom Thurmond was a racist when he died. Trent Lott, OTOH, probably still is. And I'm not a Democrat. And you're ignoring the point.
