the funny thing is Arnold is blaming his lack of knowledge of the English language for this gaff. .

The amusing thing to me is many illegal aliens feign lack of ability to speak English when they are in trouble for something.

Well the thing is, the agriculture industry pretty much depends on illegals to do backbreaking work for crap wages.

Everybody in charge knows this goes on but they look the other way.

A guest worker program would make sense because it would also protect the workers. Some workers have gotten lifelong disabilities from injuries while on the job, but since they are illegal, they pretty much don't get taken care of when it happens.

I agree with abolishing NAFTA and aborting CAFTA. Free trade is only fair between equals, otherwise the poorer nations become vassals of the corporations of the rich countries instead of developing thier own "home grown" enterprises that keep the wealth in said 3rd world country.

Oh, and my dad will loose his job if CAFTA goes through.

What is the point of a guest worker program? The reason agricultural businesses want the illegals is so they can get rich by paying them slave wages instead of paying the Americans who are already here a legal wage. Forcing them to pay the newly legalized illegals legal wages will do nothing to stem the tide of illegals because those who have come here legally will no longer be wanted by the industry. THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY ANYONE ANYTHING MORE THAN SLAVE WAGES. On top of that you have a bunch of low skilled Americans out of work.

I don't think that's what he said. Maybe you should "get some common sense". Immigration laws are there for a reason.

Yes, and breaking them automatically means you are an undesirable individual? Hmm, I bet you've jaywalked at some point in your life, probably had underage drinking, maybe even smoked pot. I guess that makes you just as undersirable an individual.

There's a difference between crossing the street illegally and tresspassing on the grandest scale.

Not ony tesspassing, but abusing the systems in the place you enter. It would be like breaking into an aracade and playing all the games for free... times a million.

What is more of a concern, and was what Arnold was getting at, is the concern of ppl coming here with explicit intent to do harm... i.e terrorist.

                          Master Zen,

I'm not denying that some of the people coming across mean no harm to Americans, but by breaking immigration law they become undesirable simply because they are interlopers who subvert the system. They and their ilk are a net drain on America as a nation. I don't think you can say the same thing about jaywalkers, underage drinkers, and pot smokers.

Do you realize it has been economically proven for quite some time now that illegal immigration in the US provides a net gain to the country as a whole??? Seriously, its just laughable that at this point in time people continue to bring up the economic execuse for immigration because it's utterly ignortant.

You can state the cultural reasons on why immigration on this scale is undesirable (I sure as hell would not want a million chinese, for example, coming into Mexico each year) and I wouldn't disagree with them unless you're willing to come off as a blatant racist, but the economic reasons? Gimme a break. Old news. Even one of the most vocal (and smart) anti-immigrationists, Samuel Huntington, refrains from using the economic excuse since it's plain to anyone who is actually well informed on the issue to know that it's just plain wrong.

But well, it's quite obvious you just hate immigrants, whatever the reason that might be.

                            -MZ

Btw, you are also saying that pot smokers and drinkers are a net gain to the nation? Please illustrate me on such a brilliant deduction...

Actually, those studies have been disputed and there are other studies that show the opposite. It depends upon what costs you want to count and include in the study. There were also some different assumptions made (discounting money that is repatriated back to their native country and stuff like that). I don't really think the economic gain/cost is really clear at all.

Guest workers have the same problem: the workers aren't really guests, and will probably stay in the US, without assimilating.

I am sorry, but I was mortified by the fact that the mexicans in Cali support the Mexican team against USA in football This is such a simple lacmus paper, and they fail the test, still.
