  • I Have Never Listened To:

What music have you never or rarely, listened to ?

I was watching a Channel Four programe on Sunday which was the result of a poll of its viewers being asked which were the 100 greatest albums of all time.

There were two Oasis albums in the top twenty, which was quite disturbing, only one jazz album in the whole 100 (Billy Holiday), and some of the usual suspects- the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and so on.

It occurred to me that I had never been interested in Led Zeppelin. Or Deep Purple, or Black Sabbath.

I had listened to them when I was in school, but for some reason I just didn't develop a love for them, or an interest in them.

So which big name groups, or singers, or genres, do you have a blind spot (or deaf spot) for ?

Who do you not groove to ?

For the most part I find most uninteresting to say the least, and despite the huge success The Eagles seem to have garnered, I find them breathtakingly dull....

Hang on just one damn second...the no. 1 was OK Computer by Radiohead? Now The Bends (preceeding album) was pretty good but this is where Radiohead just went plain ridiculous. Paranoid Android was a cool song but the only thing of any worth here...the rest is miserable w@nkery and absolutely nothing to remember. I thought this album was cool at first but then I realised it wasn't, therefore the only long term memory of it is Paranoid Android...

haven't really listened to a lot of the older stuff on that list, with some exceptions, but generally anything over 10-15 years old i won't know much about. it's certainly true to say that i don't like a lot of the stuff on there, but i guess that's the same for everyone.

btw isn't the john coltrane album a jazz album?

My opinion exactly. I find also Oasis completely underwhelming. There are some in this list I've never heard about as well.

But then again, I have no passion for music, except only a few pieces.

I've never been to a rock concert, except for the occassional bar band, and even those are never by my choice.

I've never understood the love for Radiohead. They are merely average to me.

Fleetwood Mac is also a 'meh' band for me.

FWIW, I do like the Eagles and Oasis (I probably own the most Oasis CDs by a non-Brit on this site... though I hadn't picked up their Live Disc and the last one ).

I dont know how that list was compiled but whomever did it was obviously in an "altered state".

The only music that I havent been able to listen to for more than 1 song at a time (despite having a few CD's) is hip hop/rap.

For the most part I despise the latest crop of whining teenage pop bands (where is this generations beatles/stones etc) and the yodeling gymnastics of the current crop of R&B singers (just sing the ****ing song will ya).
