The best Apple stuff is the minimalist gear like the Cube or the current Powerbooks (still the best looking laptops IMHO). The new imac actually looks a lot better in reality than it does in stills.

I hate Windows again. It wouldn't let me print my document today in the lab – despite it being written on Microsoft's own ****ing software. And ****ing Acrobat Professional for Windows wouldn't print the PDF version either.

Again it was the greek text. I like mac because it allows me to print and write in accented Greek, name my files in accented Greek and content search in accented Greek. To be fair Word 2004 does an excellent job of this too, and the Microsoft MBU is to be congratulated (it saved me hours of correcting in my dissertation because I could use find and replace for the Greek).

Oddly enough some Dell shill was on City TV today with one of their new laptops. The woman he was demonstrating it to said that it looked almost as nice as one of the Apple ones – he had a look like someone had pissed in his mouth.

XBox 360 gets embedded DRAM

Graphic demands met by NEC

NEC SAID it will supply embedded DRAM to be used in the Xbox 360, to speed up anti-aliasing calculations.

The firm said its eDRAM macros would be a "key piece" of the console's graphics subsystem.

The memory will be used by the the video processor, developed by ATI, in much the same way as cache RAM is used by a processor. By using a high-speed storage area as a frame buffer, the R500 in the Xbox 360 will be able to perform anti-aliasing at 1280x720 with almost no impact on frame-rate, apparently.

ATI appears to have patented this method of graphics processing, although when or if it will appear on the PC is as yet unknown.
