It may have something to do with living in really crowded places.

Several years back, I heard some pychologist commenting that everyone in Hong Kong should have gone nutty by then, given the huge population density.

Rats wouldn't have put up with it. They'd have acted out by now.

The Chinese seem to thrive on it though. My girlfriend is originally from Shanghai, and she always says there aren't enough people around, until we go to Central London.

My ex left Hangzhou because it was too crowded. Different strokes. . .

              You mean they haven't already.

Btw, I recently read that china will soon have a massive men-women problem. If it continues like this in 2010 there will be 40 million!!! ( ) chinese guys for which there is no woman!

I guess that's the result of a successful 1-child policy, the chinese opinion that girls are worth less and the failure of the government to change that opinion.
I wonder when demand-vs-offer will kick in.

This will lead to osicilations. After several years girls will become more popular among parents and so on...

Some areas have had a few pro-women campaigns to encourage the birth of daughters recently, I posted a thread on it awhile back. How effective these are remains to be seen.

nah, I rather think there will be more women-trade and the image that women are goods will rise even more.

This will lead to osicilations. After several years girls will become more popular among parents and so on...
Traditions are hard to overcome, I doubt it. I think they'll search for other "solutions" - see answer to first quote.

There needs to be constantly hammering that into people's minds or nothing will change at all. Exploit the fact that chinese like to carry a good face. Officially promote people with daughters or such....
I don't know if this will work, I am not much into chinese culture.

Got the solution. USA must promote 3 female child program to round up the margin. Also the problem of women trade will become problem of men trade, much more humane : )
