Gen. Douglas MacArthur, commanded Allied forces in the South Pacific in WW2, headed occupation of Japan, and commanded UN forces in Korea till fired by Truman. Had NO role Im aware of in decision to drop the bomb on Japan - did advocated bombing China during Korean war, and was fired by Truman for that. Died decades ago.
Actually, I seem to remember that MacArthur actively disagreed with the decision to drop the bomb.

There are people here who know him. The interest would be more in the process of puzzle-solving than in the specific person.

Use the category based logic. Naval aviation is a better question than Staubach. Best thing is things that split things into two equal sized groups (e.g. the older than 50 question). Besides, RS was an aviator (copter pilot).

Has he ever served as an active commander in a area of conflict? (the gulf counts during either Iraq conflict - or in the Med if involved with Bosnia/Kosovo)?

Has he ever taught at a Naval military school?

Try to think strategically. You have the rest of the community to draw on, you know. More important to hone in by using carefully chosen category questions.

If you have a strategic, puzzle-solving sort of mind, you would be able to attack this problem regardless of that. All you jump to conclusions people remind me of the corporate execs I have to deal with, who want to do the top of mind trendy strategies and avoid hard thought and then wonder why they can't get better than average returns.

Likely NOT heard of from combat exploits (good question).

                                task force (yes, I think)

yes active commander in area of conflict.

donno if he ever taught (really, would this help you though? In your process of elimination? I liked the guy who asked about over 50. You don't have to ask NAvy only questions to triangulate.)
