A just god would forgive...but only if the person truly repents. If Hitler truly repented, I think the guilt would be punishment enough. Simply saying "I repent for such-and-such" on your deathbed doesn't count.

Not necessarily. As long as he's getting the royalty checks, he probably doesn't care where it is getting published.

Except, he would probably have a reasonable expectation that any publishing company would know enough about local laws to not publish the book where it might inspire such a reaction.

So, to that end, the target of the Greek prosecution seems to be wrong. They should be going after the publishing company, not the author. After all, he created the cartoons in a country where it's legal and wasn't responsible for it being distributed to a country where they could run afoul of the law.
