Austrian cartoonist faces Greek jail over blasphemy

You should get a copy of Gotlib : "Rhaa Lovely tome 2" where Jupiter has a nice little party with allah, buddha, odin, jehova and jesus.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
Hardly, it's no different to your argument. Things like this that offend sensibilities of people, make others laugh, and god help us; make us think, are healthy and should be encouraged. Blasphemy is a good thing, unless Christians are so insecure in their own faith that they'll compromise their dignity by defending against each atheistic transgression, as Heresson is trying to do here .

Well, I don't see any argumentation here as to why Thorn's religious expression should be shunned. Maybe I'll understand your reasoning better if you respond to the following questions:
1. Do you think Thorn is trolling, in order to offend Christians?
that's pretty obvious.
2. Do you think it could be possible that somebody really believes he is speaking with God?
Yes, but not in this case.
3. Do you think it is possible that somebody who "speaks with God" (whether it's real, or whether it's little voices in the head; the belief is all the same) hears things that go opposite to traditional religious teachings?
Thron's particular religious beliefs should be shunned, while others' should be accepted
Do You really believe Thorn believes He talks with God?
If You really did, You'd have a point. But I don't think You do.
Enough feeding this pathethic troll.
Spiffor, Whaleboy, I can't find words suitable to describe the disgust yours and Thorn's behaviour fills me with.

I thought I used to talk with God. Interestingly, God used to tell me I was right. I imagine most people who talk to God also get that same message.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
I certainly don't think it's appropriate to compare these drawings to "hate speech." Give me a break. It's satire, it's not inspiring hatred of people. There isn't any call in them to attack Christians or commit violence of any kind. Hell, a lot of people would find the Jesus he depicts someone with which they would want to hang. Comparing these to real hate symbols like swastikas and the like is a joke. I'm curious as to how someone could think these things were "hate speech," but not think the same of the Biblical passages used to justify homophobia or slavery or religious intolerance, etc.
Religious satire is perfectly okay. Nobody's beliefs are exempt from it, so we're all in the same boat. It's best just to get over it and realize it doesn't really matter what other people think about your beliefs as long as you are comfortable with them.
Why do you say this? Does he not say something you like?
We have as much reason to believe Thorn in what he says about God as we do for you. As it happens, I think both of you are talking bull****, but yours smells no better than his.
If Thorn believes what he is saying, as I you believe what you say, then we have no reason to doubt that. I think that you're looking at an interpretation of God that disagrees very strongly with yours and calling it blasphemous, when in reality you have no monopoly on God whatsoever, and no more grounds to make your claims than Thorn.
He's been consistent in his position for as long as I've been here which is over two years, yes he does troll a lot but unlike you he's actually being somewhat humble in his opinions here which means I'm inclined to take him more seriously than you .

God and I have disagreements sometimes, he gets very hostile when ever I suggest that his creation is pointless sufferball, that needs to be instiguished.... he goes on and on how about my "human" mind couldn't understand such things and it will be worth it in the end, and I better live up to my destiny of actually helping the world or else. I call him an arrogent jerk, then he causes a storm outside to strike lightning towards me. Ball lightning at that. If you asked my neighbors they would confirm that I was having an arguement and that lightning struck at me, FYI. So I know I'm not hallucinating.
Another arguement I always have about him was about the 10 commandments, he originally wrote some more like 21 or 27 or something can't remember the number its not important. I always ***** at how he should have made Moses rewrite all of the commandments and in detail so there wouldn't be confusion, but he said the most important one brought by Jesus is ignored anyways, love thy neighbor, and all the rest just support this.
Another thing we argue about is why doesn't he tell people what they are supposed to do... he says he tried that once with Moses, and people didn't listen...... I said perhaps he should do some special effects or something.. he says its not his problem if people aren't going to listen to him and instead treat each other badly, they'll learn eventually or go extinct. This one we fight about a lot... but always the same answer........ blargh.

Actually, I do. For real. Thorn has a history of wild beliefs that is a bit too consistent for it to be false, IMHO (the most spectacular of his beliefs is that he believes two be haunted by two gay ghosts, including a nazi).
I certainly DO NOT share his beliefs. But I do think that a great many "prophets" had voices in their heads, just like Thorn (and not only prophets, but plenty of deluded people who believed they had a mission bestowed by supernatural powers as well
I understand that we disagree on the prmise: I think Thron really believes it, while you think he's just toying with your faith. But imagine that my premise was right (proven and so on), would you shun his actual religious expression?

Forgive me for a stupid question, but given that we are informed that the author was not even aware that his book had been published in Greece am I to believe that in the EU everybody is expected to uphold all of the laws of every other member country regardless of where they live and can be extradited for breaking any such law to the country that enacted them? That seems impossible to believe. It would be like getting extradited to a US state that outlawed fireworks to be punished there because someone smuggled and sold some of your fireworks in that state which you had originally sold in different state where fireworks were perfectly legal. Please tell me I am misunderstanding the situation.
