Fischer directly violated the rules of an embargo, disobeying a paper sent to him by the US State Department. That's unlawful. In fact, he even spat on that particular paper.

disobeying an unjust law..."Remember, there's good stuff in American culture, too. It's just that by "good stuff" we mean "attacking the French," and Germany's been doing that for ages now, so, well, where does that leave us?" - Elok

Yes, disobeying amibigious laws, I can agree with you. However, if a person does not receive punishment for disobeying a law, it undermines the justice system. If the law is so retarded that the majority sees it, the Parlament should be endorsed to repeal it and vote on the issue. But everyone can't be allowed to decide which laws to obey.
I may think that killing guys who say something foul to my girlfriend is not wrong.
Actually, there's a ton of ways to do something real bad to a person without violating the law. And you can't do anything in return, because that would be a violation... dammit.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Fischer either is an idiot or has become one. Why the hell does he also feel he needs to make that stupidity obvious. I think that after 9/11 he appeared on the radio saying that this is what the USA deserves.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”

a similar episode occurred after the September 11, 2001 terrorism attacks. Here, Fischer gave a broadcast interview to Bombo Radyo, a small public-radio station based in Baguio City in the Philippines. "This is all wonderful news," Fischer said. "I applaud the act. The U.S. and Israel have been slaughtering the Palestinians, just slaughtering them for years. Robbing them and slaughtering them. Nobody gave a ****. Now it's coming back to the U.S. **** the U.S. I want to see the U.S. wiped out."

I forget the link to his site, edit: found but he's basically become a cross between a conspiracy theorist and a Nazi.
He believes that Rumsfeld is a Jew, IIRC. I wouldn't take any of the man's actions seriously at this point. He has always been unhinged and obnoxious. People only put up with it for so long because he could beat the Russians at chess."You're the biggest user of hindsight that I've ever known. As much as I abhor his views, it seems he is being persecuted, perhaps partly because of those views. Is anyone here suggesting that his opinions on 911 or anytning else is reason to imprison him? And if not, why are you making it the issue?

I'm just saying I don't think he's what posters here are making him out to be. He's not some great activist who decided to break an unjust law in protest. He's simply a lunatic who decided to spite the US and/or Great Jewish Conspiaracy by disobeying them on purpose, and he's avoiding the consequences, consequences that regular people would have to face. He has been able to avoid consequences all his life because he was brilliant at chess."You're the biggest user of hindsight that I've ever known. Your favorite team, in any sport, is the one that just won. If you were a woman, you'd likely be a slut." - Slowwhand, to Imran

The issue, excuse me, is that he intentionally violated an economic sanction, having been clearly briefed and understanding what the result would be if he did so. I have no problem with his actions provided that he is willing to pay the penalty, which is no less than any ordinary person would have to do for breaking a law.
