Apparently, the Japanese are going to ship him to Iceland. But Iceland has an extradition treaty with the US. The talk is that the US will file new tax evasion charges against Fischer, and Iceland will extradite him to the US.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
For the first time in years i'm actually proud of the icelandic congress!! of 42 congressmen not one voted against giving Bobby citizenship. As for the things he's been saying about the US for the last years, it's not a crime (at least not in Iceland) to say what you think, even if it is offensive or might hurt some one. Although it's common courtesy not to say it. But then again the US have been hunting him for 13 years on account of playing chess!! And who gives a flying f*** whether some old timer's are playing chess in yugoslavia!! I would be pretty pissed of if my country expelled me for something as obviously threating to national security as playing chess with a russian... Just my honest opinion, that reflects the opinion of most icelanders.
Excuse me for bad spelling as it's not my native language.

How long does it take for him to have prescription?

1. He was paid $3 million for playing this chess match. He was informed beforehand that what he was going to do was illegal.
2. He was not expelled from the U.S. He fled. He is a fugitive from justice.
3. If Americans believe like you do that the law was ridiculous, then he will be acquitted of the charges against him. Fischer is due a trial by a jury of his peers.
4. Iceland just earned itself a tarbaby of the first order. Eventually, if Iceland respects the law, he will be extradited to the United States.

Now comes the question whether he's a sportsman: According to the american definition, AFAIK, hunting and fisching ( ) are sports, so why not chess?
It's only a matter of time before StarCraft, UT2k4, and what not are sports.
Honestly, I think this is a lot of hoopla over nothing. Sure, he broke the law, but how are you going to punish him? Stick him in jail? Right, that'll really faze him, all that time to play chess... Fine him? People will still line up to give him money... probably the only thing that'll hurt him is if he's never allowed to play chess again, but with a man like that, he could probably play in his head, too. Frankly, I'll pull a DinoDoc and say my give a **** is broken.
Btw, is there a statute of limitations on his crime?

He no longer plays normal chess. He plays Fischerandom.

Wouldn't you play chess for 3 million $??
In Iceland it isn't longer a crime because it was so long ago that the case is deemed closed and we won't have to extradicate(sp) him... So Bush can whipe his ass on the extradication(sp) treaty...
