The unity is that no one wants to deal with SS, Sava. They might as well not deal with it together.
Why would the right-wing want unity with the Dems when they smell an opportunity to gain political advantage with a wedge issue? They failed at doing so with SS, so this presents another chance for them.
it appears we are right about Republican motives for politicizing this issue... ABCNews has a copy of a Republican memo, outlining the reasons the GOP should make this an issue...
ABC News obtained talking points circulated among Senate Republicans explaining why they should vote to intervene in the Schiavo case. Among them, that it is an important moral issue and the "pro-life base will be excited," and that it is a "great political issue — this is a tough issue Democrats."
Che I already said that it was considered murder and was then directed to go red a dictionary on that term. SEcond I have merely stated my opinion that he seems to have a vested stake other then love if, thats slander then I am guilty. And for the record Istated let her die just dont starve her to death. And for another thing nobody snd I mean nobdy as ever heard this woman say to kill her off if she is in a state like this. Her husband is the only one that claims this.

Then I stand corrected. And just fyi This issue is not political for me Its a matter of sympathy for the way they let her die. Call me a bleeding heart

for what it's worth, I mostly agree with you about wanting her to die by injection rather than starvation... but it really doesn't make a difference because if she is PVS, starvation won't cause her any pain or discomfort anyways.
plus I don't think you are a fundie whacko or anything... I think you are a moral person with the best intentions.
I wasnt just refering about her feeling the discomfort either, I was aslo including the helathcare workers and other family member watch her waste away. Thank you Ill take that last comment as a compliment

Please note, Delay disavowed knowledge of the points and called them disgusting. Anyone could have circulated them and its not like abcnews is riding high on a wave of honesty and impartiality.
Now, if someone could explain why the GOP need to stir up the religious right. Its not like they're gonna vote democrat for the forseeable future.

and Tom Delay has proved he can be trusted!
ABCNews dishonest? Nice ad hominem fallacy argument.
But I understand you completely. You don't have any facts to present, so you try to discredit the source.

It's fairly obvious. The Repukes want their base to be in a constant state of mouth-frothing attack. Plus, the second people stop worrying about moral issues, they might start to realize that the GOP's right wing economic agenda is bad for America.
I dont think its the balls they lack here I think its the idea of prison that scares them

Well, given the way our state government is, it's certain that were she to be euthanized, they'd have the person in jail quicker than you can get Falwell to say homosexuality is evil. Of course, Pinellas county is significantly more liberal than the rest of the state, so it might be a safe bet.
If it was me, I'd just fly her to Oregon, and have her euthanized there.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
I was just about to come out right now and call the family pussies, but the news just reported the sister was trying to feed their sister.
The family should attempt by any means possible to feed their daughter. Including the use of force. And then when in prison they should stage a hunger strike.
But I guess not all people are politically minded.
