And the da Vinci code sucks. Firstly because it´s based on bogus facts and try to pretend they are actual facts. Secondly because Dan Brown is a crappy writer and he has far too many plot twists in the book. In the end you really don´t give a **** about what the grail really is.

These are works of fiction, right?
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

If a work of fiction presents itself as based on facts, and someone believes it, knowing that its a work of fiction, whose fault is it? I mean, no one gets upset about the Amittyville Horror.

But if they don´t know that it´s a work of fiction and think that it´s real? The autor lies because he makes money of it. That´s what I don´t like...

If you want to see something claiming to be "based on facts" but grossly distorted go and watch a hollywood movie.

Or, as many people pointed out here, read the bible.

I personally was amazed that I saw so many people with that book in the subways, all the time. Yet, I have never had even the slightest inclination of reading it.

Even if the Book is fiction (and I haven´t read it so far),
how can Bertone say, that the bible claims that Jesus was unmarried and had no children?

The bible doesn´t mention a wife or children of Jesus,
but this of course doesn´t mean that there were not wife or children, just that they (if existent) weren´t mentioned.

I never came across a passage where it explicit says
"Till his death Jesus had no wife and children".

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the NT can point me to a passage where such things are mentioned (if they exist )

Saying Jesus had kids is a HUGE statement with regards to Chrisitian ideology. Jesus is supposedly both man and God. Children of Jesus would trully then be children of God..how does that work?? If desecendents of Jesus take communion, are they eating their ancestor (you know, the bit about transubstantiation?) And why would Jesus spend his last supper (knowing it was that) with his apostles and not even have the wife over??

Not mentioning a wife and kids is a rather huge oversight.

Of course, the book could always have claimed Jesus had an affair with Magdalene and she had kids during that 20 year Gap in jesus' life the bible never mentions. Keep the wife reference out, makes it more plausible.

The claim in the book is that in those times it would be so unusual for a man Jesus age not to be married that the fact the bible doesn't mention him not being married is telling evidence that he was.

It seems like it's total speculation either way.

                          That's bad storytelling.

In those times I think 'having an affair and kids' is much less plausible than 'being married and having kids'.

Never having read Brown, when I read Da Vinci COde I actually enjoyed the plot twists, knowing full well it was the equivalent of a pulp novel. However upon reading Angels and Demons, I came to teh conclusion the man is a one trick pony. Angels and Demons is essentially the same story with different villains. I knew the outcome 1/3 of the way into the book.

The Gospel of Mary Magdelene hints at Mary and the Lord having something of a relationship.
