In the UK spanking your kids in public would get you arrested.. funny how two countries can be so different in some ways, so similar in so many others.

I do support corporeal punishment but it should be used as the extremely last resort.
After all, pain is the ulimate teacher. How else did we learn how not to put our hand on a hot stovetop?
There are so many kids out of control because at school teachers cannot do much except for documenting their behavior, trying to talk to them, giving them detention and so on. And at home their parents would not take care of their disciplinary issues.
Recently there was this situation in which two kids after their entire lives (they're in high school) who were so wild because they were never disciplined properly. Now one of them are in jail right now for murdering a fellow classmate.
Who suffer in the end? The society.
Again I'm not saying we ought spank kids for every single thing they do. But again some people only understand pain.

But then again, my parents were pretty amazing in their ability to be consistent and firm. I didn't really APPRECIATE it as a kid but I knew for sure that they NEVER put up with any crap and misbehavior always had consequences. As a parent now I a trying to do the same thing.
I just don't think I will ever have to hit my children EVER. There are other ways IMHO that can be every bit as effectiveYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

If you can discpline your kid without hitting them - great!. But what if you tried every single possible way out there in the world and your kid is a beast from the deepest pit of Hades?

I dont know if this is a right way but threats work well with my kids. I have threatend to beat them but i have never had to. I take away their prized things make them do more chores. Once om daughter said if i hit her shed call the police and report child abuse. I told her she didnt have to Id drive her to her new foster parents house and leave her there thats the last time she ever said that. Im a learnign parent i come up with things to shake them to keep them in line. To answer if my kid was so bad id turn him over to the juvinile to teach him a lesson. When you find yourself arguing with an idiot, you might want to rethink who the idiot really is.

Well my oldest was asked a question in school the other day. The question was who are you afraid of who could hurt you and my son piped up and said My Mom. I didnt mention that i went further then just words I actually made two of them pack a bag and I walked them to my truck and started driving I wasnt going any where but they didnt know that. Iguess I am a mean mom. When you find yourself arguing with an idiot, you might want to rethink who the idiot really is.

Well that was an inefficient use of your time; you should have taken them as far as the bus station ticket line. That would have rattled the insolence right out of them once and for all, just for the cost of less than a tank of gas.

Hey well at least it worked and you did not have to lay a hand on them. Kudos to you.

they get parent to sign on such things??School officials defended the decision because parent-administered corporal punishment is clearly outlined in the school guidelines, something that parents must sign off on.Co-Founder, Apolyton Civilization Site

My plan is to never threaten anything I don't intend to carry out --- plus we must present myself and Mrs Flubber as an indivisible parental block ( We ALWAYS support each other in front of the kids)
I think by being consistent and firm, you WILL get respect of your children -- Thats the hope. My son is 22 months old and I can already see how much he wants to please his parentsYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo
