There are some in Poland.
One was about a princess named Wanda, who, it seems, was a dotter of legendary Krak, the founder of Krakow. Anyway, she was a great ruler, all her servants loved her. However, she was also young and very beautiful and one day, a diplomat of some German prince came and demanded marriage with her. He threatened that if she doesn't marry his master, He will attack her duchy and destroy it.
And so, to save her nation and not to marry a German,
young princess jumped to Vistula and killed herself.

One of my country's legends says that when some monk called bonifatius went out to convert paganist Polish heathens who ate their babies to neighbour loving and prosperous christianity, he was murdered for his belief.

While I'm not a friend of the catholic church, I just deny murder for religious reasons. Does a nation become better with a new religion?
