For some reason, I kept expecting him to tell me he had a few million in a secret bank account that he needed help transferring.

Can Arabs serve in the Israeli military?
Yes.

It IS possible that you'll be drafted into other service rather than the military. I am not sure how institutionalized is this. Of course, many people are also drafted into the Police.

By choice only, or are arab citizens drafted like jewish citizens?
not drafted, sadly.
Well, my question was more like: is there a choice in the hands of the consetious objector, or is the decision of his service wholly out of his grasp?
everyone has some choice as to where will he go serve.

A country cant call itself truely free if its citizens are treated differently according to their religion. COs should be freed from serving in the army if the orthodox are. And lets face the facts here, wich ones contribute more to the society, the people who disagree or the ones who see themselves above the secular society. For me the COs are creme of society compared to the latter.
Are people of Israel free or not? And remember, a law doesnt make a state, people do.Last edited by laurentius; March 3, 2005, 16:59.Que l’Univers n’est qu’un défaut dans la pureté de Non-être.

I'm sorry you lost me there.
But anyway.
If religion defines their identity, I'm not sure I care so much anymore on a personal level.
Afterall we are talking about people who want to isolate themselves from the society here. Its the same thing here in Finland really, the Jehovas witnesses are free from serving in the army and that I think, is wrong. It is wrong to discriminate people according to their religion. Either everyone serve, wich is wrong but atleast equally wrong. Or do the right thing and let people have the freedom to choose.
And you know why? Because the worst soldiers are those who hate being one.Que l’Univers n’est qu’un défaut dans la pureté de Non-être.

And I'm not saying we should, this is just a thing we need to correct our legistlation about
Now its time to agree to dismantle it as a society to continue the joke w little further. I dont think there was ever a referendum about conscription in either of our countries so we didnt really argee on anything as a society.Que l’Univers n’est qu’un défaut dans la pureté de Non-être.
