It's more difficult to put a definition on them because few chavs call themselves chavs, as such can't be compared to the likes of the mods or the rockers etc.

Shall we say, young men and secondarily, women, dressed upon Burberry, sportswear, baseball caps to hide their faces from CCTV cameras and prison white trainers? The pictures on Chavscum.co.uk should give you a good idea.

Generally viewed as being delinquent, ignorant and belligerent, but that view belies any further exploration imo.

No. Chavs are another in the line of despised working-class youth subcultures. Closest Swedish equivalent in recent years would be the mid-nineties "Kickers".

Whaleboy, may I ask why you keep attacking Burchill with the Israel Ad Hominem? What on earth has her (admittedly ridiculous) views on an entirely unrelated issue have to do with the point in question? Or, for ****'s sake, her income? Soon you'll be commenting in usual male-chauvinist manner on her clothing to diminish her arguments, I'll wager.

Don't forget, Burchill is quite possibly the greatest troll in the history of trolling. Even when she makes interesting and good points she does them in a way that inevitably makes everyone riled up, left and right. She's certainly managed to get a rise out of you, which is probably half of her point. I've not seen this show and though I'd very probably agree with her, considering my love of subcultures, it's not unlikely she'd have managed to work in something to make me mad as well.
