And for God's sake! It's not chav, it's charver, and they have existed for years in the North East. Of course, long before the burberry clothing, there were Fila boots, Berghaus jackets, Fred Perry t-shirts et al. It's not a new thing, but apparently their reaching the attention of the media requires a new word.
Nothing happens in the North-East until the media in the South-East reports it.
Interesting fact: Only in the Ipswich-Felixstowe area of Suffolk do you find Chavs being referred to as "Garys" and their 14 year old girlfriends as "Garygirls".
