This was a college dance. Almost half the people there were drunk (I was sober, so I have no excuse). If people really wanted a show, they could find one. For about five seconds, that is. The building was swarming with Public Safety personnel.

Well, yeah, they wanted to keep the drunks from starting trouble. It's the kind of event alumni regularly attend, there were a bunch of them last night.

5s should be enough to deliver a KO blow! Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Nah, WAC is a small college, if a very old and distinguished one, only a little over a thousand students. There aren't a whole lot of famous alumni. But seeing as these are the people they guilt-trip for funds every year, they want to leave them with a good impression, not get them beat up by a bunch of drunken 19-year-old lacrosse players.

She was the one threatening with violence, I seem to recall. The trick would be make her start it and then KO her before the security peeps get in between. Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

How come no one considered telling the agressive ho to "beat it, I'm not asking you?". Why let someone else decide for who might eventually be (with a nonzero probability), the love of your life?Originally posted by Serb:Please, remind me, how exactly and when exactly, Russia bullied its neighbors?

And on yet further reflection, I think I'll take Laz's advice. Whatever happened, she didn't do a thing to stop it from happening, and there's no sense in going through this much hassle and grief for a girl I'll never see again after May. Even if she is unbelievably cute.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Update: As it turns out, it's probably a good thing that I didn't take the aforementioned advice, at least not to the letter. Thinking it over on Sunday night, I reflected that my behavior was a little intrusive on a girl who just wanted to party with her friends. I decided not to say anything more about it here until I'd gone up and apologized for being a clingy ass, which seemed the classy thing to do given how silly my behavior appeared in retrospect. I don't know her schedule so I had to wait for a chance meeting. As it happened, it was at a poetry reading about an hour ago.
I went up and said sorry. She seemed genuinely astonished and said that on the contrary, she needed to apologize for her friend's behavior. She had an appointment to keep and couldn't stay (I said this after the reading), but it appears things were not quite as cut-and-dried as was implied.
Even if she was only being polite just now, she's inclined to be such a quiet and reserved, if spirited, girl, that she may well have been just as shocked by the fight-happy friend as I was. Thinking back, if I was really so tedious to her, she would not probably not have burst out laughing when I jokingly offered to fight her friend over her.
I figured I was just coming on too fast for her liking, so she complained to the friend. But that's completely out of character for her, as she's certainly brave enough to tell people things they don't want to hear. I only just met her and she's already scolded me a number of times in casual conversation. I don't fall for cowards, it seems.
Which is not to say that Oerdin et al are wrong necessarily, just that the jury's still out and I've not yet given up.
