This is half true. Yes, it was under Clinton that AQ 1st attacked the United States, in 1996, in Saudi Arabia, the Khobar Towers bombing. AQ didn't exist until that year. The group that attacked us in 1993, was the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, an off-shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Now, given this record compared to Rice's record, I'd take Rice's record any day.

Undre Rice, despite repeated warnings, the worst attack on the United States in our history occured. Under Clinton, at least one major attack was prevented, the Millenium Bombing. It's hard to blame Cltinon for secureity lapses which occur in countries where we don't control the security (Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Tanzania, Yemen).

If Bill Clinton himself thought that OBL was the most important issue facing America, why didn't he accept his surrender when it was repeatedly offered?

His surrender was never offered. Perhaps you are ferering to the right-wing lie that Sudan offered bin Laden to the U.S. #1, he was never offered to us, he was offered to the Saudis, at a time before AQ had conducted any attacks against us, and in exchange for the United States taking Sudan off the list of terrorism sponsoring countries. Clinton did the right thing in refusing the offer, not that it mattered since the Saudis refused to take him.

As Ming said, why didn't they do something to beef up security on planes when Clinton was warned of al Qaeda's intent to hijack airplanes.

Because the GOP wouldn't let him. They were too busy crippling his presidency over a blowjob (and numerous other irrelevent--and false--accusations) to allow him to do his job, accusing him of wagging the dog when he tried to make terrorism an issue. In addition, Clinton was a complete whore to business, and the airline industry absolutely was opposed to security improvements which would cost them money (like adding air marshals and secure doors).

Clark made it clear that Bush wanted a whole new direction on al Qaeda.

Which is why the first thing regarding AQ that the Bush administration did was quash all investigations into the Saudi sources of AQ's money? Which is why they cut anti-terrorism funding?

Man, Neddie, you would have been a great news person for Pravda under Stalin.

It is almost as if you guys never watched the Clark testimony as I did. He said that the reason that Bush did not want to retaliate for the Cole as Clinton had done after previous attacks was that Bush wanted to really go after al Qaeda and not repeat the pinprick responses that Clinton used. He was asked to draft a plan. He did. A lot of what he suggested was actually implemented.

As to the repeated offers of OBL to Clinton, I have actually heard Clinton explaining this to some reporter. The tape was played almost daily on Hannity's radio show. On the tape, Clinton explains that he did not accept the offers because they apparently did not have enough evidence to charge OBL with a crime. He said he asked the Saudi's to take him, but they refused.

As to 1993, the grand jury testimony showed that OBL was part of the conspiracy, if not behind it entirely. Because of this was grand jury testimony, though, it could not be shared with intelligence, nor, apparently, with Bill Clinton, as Bill seems to have been unaware that OBL was an unidicted co-conspirator to the 1993 bombing when the offer of bin Laden was made.

Generally, Che, what you say here is a lot of BS. You accuse me of the very malfeasance of which you are guilty: writing propaganda.

Considering that Sudan doesn't belong to the "outposts of tyranny" meme, I would imagine Dubya has struck an agreement with them. The Sudanese seem fond of selling harbored terrorists: some years ago (in the mid 90's actually), they sold us a terrorist who had been on a run for twenty years. While the price remains unclear, there are rumors that we were to let Sudan alone for the ethnic cleansing.

Where's the serious attempt by Clinton to catch OBL if the Clinton folks were so focused on AQ? All evidence points to a buch of half assed attempts and the destruction of a Sudanese asprin factory.

He was doing more than Bush was pre-9/11. Actually looking at the problem intensely is more effective than pushing it to the backburner. If it wasn't for 9/11 would Bush even care about OBL in the slightest (that is, if he wasn't defeated in election).

Well it's more like 0.2 of substance higher than 0.0 of it. Having intelligence alerted to it is something.

How are we supposed to know how well the counter-terrorism by the CIA and FBI worked? Is it judged by attacks vs. non-attacks?

Al Qaeda were pretty blunt about wanting to attack the US and Islamic terrorists had already attacked the WTC once.

People in important places were simply not serious enough about the threat.
I couldn't believe it the first time I got on an internal flight in the US, it was a joke. They put you though all this sh!t to get into the country but once youre in you had carte blanche.

For years in the UK if a bag got left in a train station unattended the bomb squad got called.

I still think though it needed something pretty drastic to happen before your average Amercian would give up his 'freedoms'

Actually, che's pretty much the only one providing the truth. And your FOXNEWS regurgitated garbage is pure BS Ned... the sad thing is, YOU REALLY BELIEVE WHAT YOU ARE SHOVELING.

It's no wonder the GOP has been so successful in the past few years. They control what information the dopes get. Then the dopes recite the lies almost word for word.

So Ned... provide some proof to your claims Bush did something pre-9-11 to get OBL.

As for Condie... she might possible be the worst ever. But then again, I'm not familiar with past NSA's. The fact is, she was NSA during the worst national security failure... probably in American history...

And all Ned can say is, "BLAH BLAH ITS CLINTON'S FAULT"

                              how pathetic...
