First, until the last couple of years in was legal for I believe girls 14 and older to pimp themselves in Tokyo prefecture, and close to 10% were willing (WSJ article from memory). Finally, in an attempt to deal with low fertility rates in young women this was outlawed.

If a culture is willing to consider this acceptable, then a very active trade in sex slaves is surprising how? The Netherlands is also a major center of it, and they are supposed to be a very tolerant, foward thinking society. Actually if the Japanese are going to deal with this that is going to be a massive change in their society and approach to foreigners, and something to be lauded.

Reference intolerance in most of East to Southeast Asia, it's quite well documents - google it if necessary. Just like there is still a fair bit of intolerance in the United States, but at least I like to think we have been moving in the right direction. It's funny, and this is anecdotal, I find more religious intolerance, i.e. I want my child only dating a Christian versus a Jew, Sikh, or Moslem, where I live (a semi-southern red state) than racial intolerance.

I don't see how anyone can deny the massive amounts of racism that exists throughout East Asia.

I don't know if it's racism so much as national chauvinism.

Ah, yes, a topical post versus a rant.

How would you distinguish between the two?

Not necessarily, in Korea I get some wierd postive racism towards whities occasionally, people going way way out of their way to be polite to me etc.

Some time ago now, I met a Japanese girl in Southern Cal. We hit it off. But when I asked her for a date, she said no. She explained that her family would never accept her dating a white guy.

I wonder if anyone else has had the same experience?

I'm not drawing any conclusions about whether people are racist or not. I just confirmed my own experience with mindseye. Sorry that it didn't fit in with your racist view of the world. I also have not used friends' experiences to try to prove that a certain group is bad, although I could site numerous examples. However, I wouldn't make a claim about all Chinese people from any one of them. Your example didn't even prove the racism of Japanese at all, but clearly demonstrated your own. There could be numerous reasons for refusing him. Perhaps his Japanese isn't as good as you claim. Perhaps there were other circumstances that you or your friend ignored in order to claim racism and feel superior in some way.

Why even mention the sexist part, if not to slander the Japanese that you clearly hate so much?

I'd say that I'm now disgusted with you, but I've always been because of some of the sickening things you say and the lies you try to perpetuate.

No, had the opposite though. Her family said to either date Japanese or white, because no one else will embrace her culture. I didn't know whether to feel complimented or offended.

No, she agreed to go out with me and we did it on the first date.

Actually, the treatment of whites seems like it stems from national chauvinism to me as well. Here Americans seem to get more respect than other Caucasians do. I think it's because Japanese people acknowledge that America is at least the equal of (if not better than Japan) and Americans are therefore worthy of respect. Most other countries can't claim that, so they don't get any respect.

                              No.
