Unbelievably, the best selling singles artist in the United Kingdom.

Also quite possibly the best preserved, thanks to formaldehyde and surgical intervention.

Strangely enough, when he first appeared on the U.K. music scene, his 'look' was much admired by many Sixties lesbians.

    A song for Dame Cliff:

Teenage Jesus and the Jerks: The Closet
Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

    • Cliff rocks. I like him because of the Young Ones (not the record he did with them, but Rick's obsession with him).

Wishing - A Flock of Seagulls

As you may guess, I am shuffling through my 80s pop smart playlist. So much crud for one decade.

        • The 80s are like that - there is some absolutely fantastic stuff and then a load of old cobblers...in hindsight the 90s seemed to be far more top heavy on the old cobblers front...

Let us not forget the 80s monstrosity that is Duran Duran, and their having received a 'lifetime achievement' award.

            Truly, there is no justice.

Yes, but even they are fun in a trashy way.

No, they are the spawn of Brummagem Beelzebub, a loathsome demon with an horrendous accent and a penchant for cooking Indian dishes in a bucket.

I truly dislike their particular brand of besuited blandness and their vile videos, and that ghastly flabby Bond theme they did.

And have you heard their covers' album ?

It almost pips the covers' album of Simple Minds as the most ill-thought out and vile collection of songs ever to exist in all the many realms of the multiverse ever.

Duran Duran- worst misuse of a cool 60s pop reference to a film starring a hunky angel ever.

Good Midlands song instead: The Specials: Ghost Town

                  • There was some good music made in the '80s, but it wasn't easy to find. Very little of the pop was even tolerable, I still have trouble watching a lot of movies made in the '80s because the music is so terrible.

One more thing to make John Hughes's films the delight to watch that they aren't.

I don't like them either. But then again, I listen to a lot of music that I don't really like.

I hate ABBA, but as I said, I'm still in love with Agnetha after more than 25 years. When I was a wee boy I wanted to marry both the ABBA girls and was crushed to learn that bigamy was illegal.

                          • Once again I'm not actually listening to anything, but I have Superman by REM stuck in my head. Could be worse - I just got Major Tom by Peter Schilling out of there. Oh, wait, hang on - it's still kicking around. Dammit!!
