  • Compassionate Conservatism in Action

Last Friday when promoting social security reform with 'regular' citizens in Omaha, Nebraska, President Bush walked into an awkward unscripted moment in which he stated that carrying three jobs at a time is 'uniquely American.'

While talking with audience participants, the president met Mary Mornin, a woman in her late fifties who told the president she was a divorced mother of three, including a 'mentally challenged' son.

The President comforted Mornin on the security of social security stating that 'the promises made will be kept by the government.'

But without prompting Mornin began to elaborate on her life circumstances.

    Begin transcript:

MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.

THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?

    MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.

THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)
What a *****...I wonder if any of those three jobs is one he wants to give to a migrant worker because Americans "won't do it".

I can't support Bush in this.

I mean, jeez. 3x8hr shifts == 24, she's working to full productivity, and he wants her to slack off with ****ing sleep?

    WTF?

Next thing you know, he'll suggest she take the goddamn weekends off!

What is this country coming to? Thank God we're not like the lazy French, no thanks to that nogoodnik commie pinko president we have. Bollocks to "Compassionate Conservatism".

      What an *******.

Economically speaking, Bush is completely out of touch with the average American. The only reason that "moral issues" played such a role in the election is that the Dems failed to distinguish themselves on the economic front.

Someone is going to get yelled at- the presidents handlers are not up to their usual snuff obviously, having allowed someone who actually in a small way challenged the president. These audiences are supposed to be filled solely with yes men and women there to ask loaded softball question to the president.

That woman is so utterly unamerican, shw should be shot

You dare say the evilibs were able to breach the shielding from reality created by his handlers!?

How will we survive now that the last great barrier of hope has been broken!

What you don't get is that I'm serious. Absolutely serious. Why can't you just get behind our president, you ungrateful curs? Don't make me challenge you to a duel of honor!

Wouldn't surprise me. I just don't like the way W answers that question, regardless of whether the woman actually does work 3 jobs.

I still remember that clip of W speaking to a group of blue bloods: "Here we have a gathering of the haves and the have mores. Some people call you the rich; I call you my base."

W tries to play himself off as a salt-of-the-earth, religious man-of-the-people type. Its little things like this that says to me what Bush really is: an unctious, big-buisness elitist who couldn't give a crap about most of the poor people he's convinced to vote for him. I think that his religion is an act designed to harness the poor relgious folks. His real concerns are with the business elite. Explloiting religion is an easy way to get people to vote for a man who otherwise does not represent any of their needs.

Then it's obviously broken, Oerdin. Like DinoDoc's "I don't give a ****" meter, or my restrainer against the joy I have that Enterprise was cancelled.

I think Bush might think "uniquely" mean 'not iquely'... I have no idea what he thinks iquely means.

                            IQ-ly

Not IQ-ly = Not very smart

So working three jobs is not very smart American...
