I hope that the ceasefire holds and more can be done to stablise every life for everybody in the Middle East.
That's with my head. My heart tells me the Palestinians won't stop until they get all the land back that Israel stole from 67 onwards. Some cry `Allah O Akbar` in the street. And some carry Allah in their heart.

The leaders never suicide. Their specialty is convincing others, especially the young and vulnerable, to die for their cause."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

That requires someone to go after them. So far, AFAIU, Abbas hasn't been willing to do that, just prevent them from attacking Israel."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

That's their goal. Hamas doesn't want peace because what good is it to have a these terror organizations unless there is a war? Hamas would dry up and lose all of its funding. Thus the war must continue.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

I mean nobody here wants to admit that Israeli executions, said to be in defiance of international law, with dead innocent civilians as collateral damage, may actually have been the necessary prerequisite for peace. But it may be the case nonetheless."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

2 things have been far more important to lowering Hamas's aggressiveness
1. A PA leadership interested more in a cease-fire and in moving forward.
2. A degradation of Hamas ability to strike after multiple years of attacks and arrest against the operational leaders, as opposed to the political leaders. More important than killing some blind guy in a wheelchair is getting the guys who know how to make bombs or transport them into Israel.
Had a hundred Israelis been killed by Hamas retaliations for Yassin's death, you could not make this arguement. The inability of Hamas to carry out the promised retribution had far more to do with degrading their operational capability than in killing the political leadership. If you don't like reality, change it! me

except Hamas had been lowering its profile even before the death of Arafat.
2. A degradation of Hamas ability to strike after multiple years of attacks and arrest against the operational leaders
well im happy youve admitted that. So now we realize that you CAN wear down a terrorist group militarily, by focused attacks on operational leaders, bombmakers, etc. Its NOT just whack a mole, with more new terrorists for each one you kill.
, as opposed to the political leaders. More important than killing some blind guy in a wheelchair is getting the guys who know how to make bombs or transport them into Israel.
im not sure. Somebody has to inspire the would be new recruits, and thats a real material need. And of course somebody has to decide there should be bombings. Im not certain its entirely a degradation in capability.

Well. d'oh. Had a million Iraqi greeted US troops with flowers you couldnt make the argument that Cheney was stupid for saying they would. Yes there were foiled attacks, but was there the kind of full fledged assault Yassin and Rantissi tended to order?

Im less confident I know exactly whats going inside Hamas.Last edited by lord of the mark; February 8, 2005, 17:29."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

They only have 6 or so city blocks that are nice here. Everything has a stink to it, possibly because of the refineries. I called my grandfolks, and my grandfather (a former EVIL Haliburton Petrochemical executive) said "smells like bread and butter to me", which is a point.
Anywho, went to the Gold Souq and got my Bling-bling.Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.
