    • It's hard to see from the polls on abortion how much of a benefit it would be for the Democrats to switch to a pro-life stance.

The net result is that 13% of all likely voters say they are pro-life and will only vote for a candidate who shares their views on abortion. Naturally, most of these (90%) are voting for George Bush. By contrast, only 6% of the electorate will vote strictly pro-choice, and virtually all of these people are voting for Kerry. The remaining voters are divided between those who say abortion will be one of many important issues they consider (48% of the voting public), and those who say abortion is not a major factor for them (32%).
They would lose 6% maybe, but I don't know if that's certain. Some of those 6% might just be saying that they wouldn't vote for Democrats if they were pro-life. They would get some of the 13% who say they vote pro-life no matter what, but I haven't found a poll that would suggest how many of that 13% they would get.

Abortion Issue Guides One in Five Voters

edit: of the 48% that say abortion is an important issue, but who say they consider other issues I believe the Democrats could pick up some votes, because in general pro-lifers care much more about abortion.

That's because one side knows they have the law on their side, so they can afford to vote other issues. Stop defending the right to choice, and it will become a wedge issue for pro-choice people.

No I'd just like competent people to lead the Democrats. But they maybe too much since we are talking about Democrats. Expect to see "I have a scream" remixes soon.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

We'll have to see how it turns out. Right now there's only a small movement of pro-life Democrats. I don't think they've won any elections.

How much have the Democrats been winning recently?

They're losing either way, so they might as well take a stand. Maybe the Republican Party will split or something. What we really need is a third party.

                        • Bush and DeLay don't believe in power-sharing. They're bullies, so appeasement doesn't work. Giving into them does nothing besides convincing the Republican leadership to become even more extremist. It also turns you into ideologically vacuous "flip-floppers" in the mind of the electorate. That's why McAulliffe and Daschle have presided over a series of defeats. Something Dean and Reid hopefully will change.

They lose less if they compromise. There no point to going down fighting; it doesn't do any good at all.

Second place is just the first loser in politics.

                              • They've been compromising (i.e. giving the reactionary Republicans everything they want) for the past four years. It's time for something different.

Gingrich didn't act like a ***** despite being in the minority. There might be something to that.
