Picking names is tough. In our case we had to pick names that were pronouncable by Swedes as well as anglo's. We ended up with anglo names where there was a good 'kort nam' (nickname) that would do for the Swedes. As a result, my elder daughter did not use her real name until about age 17 and I think even many of the younger ones friends dont know her real name yet. Its a family tradition though, when I met my wife my army buds called me 'Harry' since some joker didnt think spencer was english enough.

My mum was a big Churchill fan and my dad didnt insist on the family names.

I'm afraid it's potentially all of the above.
