So, by my count, he used freedom 22 times. This is not including free, or other variants, which just add to the total. Also, I couldn't be arsed to add up Democracy and Liberty, but they were used rather a lot as well.

To Bush's credit, he said some very good, and accurate things, about foreign policy. The following passage I found particularly accurate:
"In the long term, the peace we seek will only be achieved by eliminating the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder. If whole regions of the world remain in despair and grow in hatred, they will be the recruiting grounds for terror, and that terror will stalk America and other free nations for decades."
However, it's Bush. His idea of addressing this problem is invasion, and heavy handedness. However, the fact that he mentions this at all means that at least his speechwriter has some idea of the problems of the world (if not their solution). I find this heartening. Maybe there is some hope for the Bush administration yet.
But I'm probably just feeling optimistic due to the effects of the SotU drinking game. Who knows.
"Remember, there's good stuff in American culture, too. It's just that by "good stuff" we mean "attacking the French," and Germany's been doing that for ages now, so, well, where does that leave us?" - Elok

If we ignore much of the speech was BS, it was an impressive speech.

Yeah, like the BS about protecting the weak, the BS about not emposing upon other countries, the BS about how his tax breaks are helping the economy, the BS about Iraqis accepting the US, the BS about protecting death penalty defendants...

Similar reaction at US embassy - some Americans choking back tears.

                Surely you jest.

If not. Oh God... what a bunch of cretins. And the Americans think that the North Koreans are saps for propaganda... Someone nuke the US right now.

                    I'd hit it.

though I'm curious who those legs belong to. They could belong to some 65 year old senator.

I didn't see the whole speech. I only heard the beginning and sound bites on the news, but the delivery was particularly bad, even for Bush.

Reid wasn't that bad, he had a good line with the "birth tax." Got turned off by his protectionism though. Anyways, he's far better at speaking than Daschle. He's also turning to be quite an effective Minority Leader (again, in contrast to Daschle). He says that he has 42 Dems lined up against the Gonzales nomination, and all 44 Dems lined up against SS privatization. Seeing as how Jeffords will definitely vote with the Dems, and Snowe and Chaffee will probably defect on both issues, plus possibly some others (i.e. Specter on SS), a filibuster becomes very practical (and there may not be any need for a filibuster on SS privatization).

                          • I thought Bush performed a brilliant shifting of the goalposts over Iranian nuclear research.

"We're not going to let 'em have enriched uranium."

NOT "they can't have nukes". No, they can't even have peaceful nuclear reactors.

Funny thing is - it's less than a week since Meir Dagan (?) head of Mossad briefed the Israeli cabinet on the state of the Iranian enrichment program.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Kuwait and Saudi withdrew their ambassadors, or even broke off diplomatic relations completely.

Blah blah blah... enough with your trolling. We give Fez grief for his uncivil attitude, and the same applies to you.

Why don't you discuss the topic instead of just throwing insults around. Because if you continue, you will get the same treatment he does.
